Prepare your child for life

LEAP has been designed to boost your child’s independence while mastering essential life skills and building their confidence. These elements are what’s important for helping them succeed in life.

Program delivery

Individual sessions are delivered by a Vision Australia Service Provider via a telehealth appointment on Teams.

LEAP’s team of Service Providers includes various disciplines, including Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Orthoptists, Speech Pathologists, Counsellors, and Orientation and Mobility Specialists.

Elements of LEAP

All young people applying to participate in LEAP 2026 are required to complete a "LEAP-Mini" session.

A LEAP-Mini session is a short, 30-60-minute, ‘taster’ session. It has been designed to simulate a typical session in the LEAP program.

The LEAP-Mini offers your child a chance to experience our program free of charge, helping them decide if LEAP aligns with their goals and interests. It also allows us to assess if your child is prepared for participation in the full LEAP program in 2026.

The LEAP-Mini includes activities that are very similar to what they will experience in the full LEAP program. It is also an opportunity answer all LEAP-related questions you and your child may have.

The LEAP-Mini is conducted on Teams with a LEAP-Mini session facilitator, LEAP 2026 applicant, and a parent or guardian.

We all know independence, leadership, and employability are important skills to have, but how do we get them?

In LEAP, we empower young people to step out of their comfort zones and take on the challenge of learning essential life skills. Through designing their own fundraising projects, they can channel their creativity, manage implementation, and take ownership of reaching their goals.

Fundraising can be a daunting activity, but with the support of Vision Australia, our LEAP participants have seen huge successes in their fundraisers, many achieving well beyond what they thought they could do.

As young people, we're always exploring our passions; deciding on activities, investing our time, setting goals, and envisioning our futures.

In LEAP, we encourage this exploration by diving into personality types and career interests. Throughout the program, the children will engage in meaningful conversations with mentors who have professional experience in their chosen fields.

These interactions are rich with inspiration, insights, and specialised knowledge, offering first-hand perspectives on their desired careers. Our aim with these mentorships is to empower them to pursue their career aspirations with confidence and enthusiasm.

Vision Australia’s LEAP Camp offers an immersive three-day experience for young people to meet, live, and collaborate in Kensington, Victoria.

Campers engage in daily living skills development, self-discovery, and peer learning within a supportive environment. The program includes activities tailored for young people with vision loss, such as Occupational Therapy, Adaptive Technology Training, Orientation and Mobility sessions, social skills workshops, team building exercises, problem-solving challenges, and insights into career opportunities and meaningful engagement.
