National funding bodies

My Aged Care

My Aged Care connects people over 65+ to services to help them at home or go into an aged care home. This is where you will get funding for services like what you can receive from Vision Australia.<

Call 1800 200 422 between 8.00am and 8.00pm (weekdays) and between 10.00am and 2.00pm (Saturday).

National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA)

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). The NDIS supports people with a disability (including low vision/blindness) get connected to services in their community. This includes connections to doctors, community groups, sporting clubs, support groups, libraries and schools, as well as providing information about what support is provided by each state and territory government.

Australian Government Department of Veterans' Affairs

The Department of Veterans’ Affairs gives advice to serving and former members of the Australian Defence Force, their families and others concerned with their wellbeing. You can find information on pensions, health, housing and commemorations.

Financial support

Centrelink

Centrelink, or Services Australia can provide assistance if you are unemployed, have a disability, are caring for someone else, are retired and/or receiving a Government pension.

The Department of Social Services’ website gives you access to policy and information relating to seniors.

Council on the Ageing (COTA) Australia

COTA Australia's promotes, improves and protects the wellbeing of older people in Australia, both as citizens and consumers.

National Seniors Australia

National Seniors Australia is a not-for-profit, membership-based community organisation that endeavours to provide economic and social benefits for people aged 50 and over. It represents its members’ views to government at all levels and also provides service and advice to organisations assisting people 50 years and older.

Australian Government Department of Health

The Department of Health is details all the national health and ageing policies, programs and services of the federal government.

Beyond Blue

Beyond Blue is an Australian, independent non-profit organisation working to address issues associated with depression, anxiety or related mental disorders.

Dementia Australia

Dementia Australia is the peak body providing support and advocacy for Australians living with dementia, including Alzheimer’s.

Advocacy groups

Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission

A place to lodge any complaints about aged care services, including concerns about the quality of aged care services in residential aged care or home care.

Carers' support

Carer Gateway

Carer Gateway is a national support service funded by the Australian Government. It provides free support for carers through a network of regional Carer Gateway service providers. Carers can access a wide range of help from counselling and peer support groups to respite care, home help and equipment.

Carers Australia

Carers Australia is the national peak body representing Australia’s carers. It advocates on their behalf to influence policies and services at a national level.

Carers Australia works collaboratively with partners and its member organisations to deliver a range of essential national carer services.

Language services

Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS National)

Translating and interpreting help is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week with TIS National.

It’s a great service for people who do not speak English, and can be dialled in during a call with My Aged Care, NDIS or Vision Australia.

Volunteering Australia

Volunteering Australia is the national peak body working to advance volunteering in the Australian community. It has a portal to find volunteering opportunities near you.
