The power of assistive technology to transform lives was on full display as the Vision Store hosted two highly successful Product Expos in Albury and Wollongong. With events held on May 7 in Albury and June 10 in Wollongong, these gatherings brought the blind and low vision community together to explore the latest tools designed to foster independence.
Hands-on innovation
The clear highlight of both events was the introduction of the Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses. Attendees had the opportunity to experience these AI glasses firsthand, moving beyond the hype to see how technology integrates into everyday life.
Vision Store product experts walked participants through the glasses’ core features, demonstrating how voice commands and real-time AI interaction can assist with daily tasks, navigation and information access. The atmosphere was one of curiosity and excitement as community members tested the devices in a safe, supported environment.
Lived experience in action
What made the expos special was the contribution from members of the community who shared their own stories. Hearing firsthand how these assistive devices have helped individuals reclaim their independence – whether by making social interactions smoother or simply providing greater confidence when out and about – was a powerful reminder of why these tools matter.
"It’s one thing to hear about the technology, but seeing how it actually helps someone in their day makes all the difference," said one attendee. The direct consultation with product teams ensured that every attendee could get answers for their specific needs and goals.
